Latest Doll Purchases

I finally got the Audrey Hepburn doll I was eyeing. I just couldn’t pass it up because there was a further reduction in her price from the $50 in my last post to just $20!!!! It was difficult selecting the actual doll to purchase because for a lot of the sets Audrey’s white blouse was stained but I eventually found one that I was happy with and snagged her.

Of course that was not the only doll I purchased. How could I stop at one when all of them were priced at $20 each. However, I did restrain myself and eventually left Takashimaya with just 3 dolls 🙂

I think I did really well at these sales – besides the 3 dolls below, I have added 4 Silkstone Barbies to my collection and best of all, 2 were the articulated ones which I’ve been wanting for a while. Thank you Takashimaya!

Barbie A Wrinkle in Time Giftset

I’ve been trying to space out my posts so that there’s a consistent stream of new content but I haven’t been very successful because the last few posts have come so close together but I will keep on trying.

The movie A Wrinkle in Time is now showing in our cinemas and I thought that this would be a perfect time to provide you guys with a review of the dolls since some of you might have ordered them or about to purchase them.

These dolls look fantastic and I was pleased to come across this review because this person actually deboxed her dolls and provided a running commentary as she did so here goes.

Happy Birthday, Barbie!

Barbie was unveiled for the first time at the American Toy Fair in New York City in on March 9, 1959. She was created by Mattel co-founder Ruth Handler, who noticed that her daughter Barbara was choosing to play with paper dolls over traditional baby dolls.

Since then Barbie has had more than 180 occupations and represented more than 40 nationalities. She has also evolved from a doll criticized for having unrealistic body proportions to one with three different body types, seven skin tones, 22 eye colors and 24 hairstyles.

Collectible Toy Fair

This weekend was great mainly because of the above mentioned. I was lucky enough to be told about the sale by a couple of other collectors but only got the chance to go down today, the last day. I was told that there were some Barbie Basics to be had for a steal at $15 but I was definitely too late for those. However, I did see some Spanish Dolls of the World for $15 and a couple of Harley Davidson Barbies for $20. I managed to get my hands on a few Silkstone Barbies that I had been eyeing for a while. One was Little Red Dress Barbie. She is a beauty and I love her detailed outfit and hair.

For collectors from other parts of the globe this may be the norm but for Singaporean collectors this sale is a big deal because sales like this don’t happen as often as it should i.e. no more than once or twice a year at selected department stores. Fashionista Barbies are sold at nett prices so are not discounted when stores have a 20% off sale. We do have Toys r’ Us here but the few I’ve visited have limited offerings of dolls which are almost never sold at a discount.

One doll that I had been eyeing for while and which had been marked down was the Audrey Hepburn Roman Holiday doll. I am not too crazy about the doll but love her outfit for some reason. I didn’t get her because although she was marked down, it was not low enough to suit my pocket 😦

I’ve spent my doll budget for the month but it was definitely worth it. If some of you managed to get to the Toy Fair, write and let us know what you bought. Did you find dolls that you had been eyeing for a while marked down?

Recent Doll Purchases Redressed

The weekend was spent scouring boxes for outfits for my dolls. Dream house Midge and tall Barbie are dressed in some older fashions I’ve had for years. I think they are Fashion Avenue fashions from the late 1990s or at least before 2003 but I am not 100% sure. The outfits are complete with footwear but I don’t know if there are any other items that should have been included. Whatever the case may be, both are beautiful dolls and I am very happy with how they look in my display case.

Dressing Petit Barbie was a little bit more challenging because we’ve never had such a petit Barbie before. I don’t know whether there are any fashions for Petit Barbie in the US market but even if there are, none have been brought into Singapore.

I found this stretch orange top/dress that looked cute and paired it with a pair of black tights. I wanted to add white sneakers but couldn’t find any. However, when I bought Dream House Midge who didn’t come with her original footwear, the seller was generous enough to provide a pair of black heels and another pair of boots. Luckily, the heels looked really cute on Petit Barbie so I’m leaving it on her till I find something better.

Don’t they look cute?

Nostalgia

I was up early this morning and had some moments to think about the dolls I had recently acquired and my collection in general. I definitely have a weakness for dolls and don’t think I will stop collecting in the near future.

I’m also fortunate not to have to limit my dolls to just one style, type or era. My Barbie collection may not be as extensive as I’d like but I’ve got dolls from the 1960s to the present. I’ve also gone through some periods when I’ve had to have every doll in a series (Fortunately, I am now over that phrase). Other phases included collecting larger dolls like Gene, Tyler and mod British Birds, Daisy & Willow.

My hope is that every doll collector gets as much pleasure in their collection as I do with mine. I’ve been able to meet many collectors lately and its great to see that this is true in most cases. Well, I think that’s enough of a glimpse into my weird mind. I will leave you to enjoy your collections and these 2 ads which I recently found and love.

Recent Doll Purchases

I have just added 3 dolls to my collection and can’t wait to get around to playing with them. The first is Fashionista Doll 33 Fab Fringe. I really like her look and can’t wait to redress her in another outfit to see how she looks.

The next is Fashionista #44 Leather and Ruffles. Now she’s really unusual and unlike any Barbie that I’ve ever seen direct from Mattel. I love her outfit and her face is growing on me.

s-l400My next doll is Life in the Dream house Midge with red hair and real eyelashes. I got her second hand so she did not come NRFB but isn’t she gorgeous?

I’m still looking for a specific petite Fashionista Barbie from last year’s line and I’m sure that I won’t be able to resist some of the 2018 models but only time will tell how many I actually end up with 🙂
