Dynamite Girls

If you’ve visited my site before you’d know that I love the dolls from Integrity’s Dynamite Girls. I have been collecting them ever since I first came across one in September 2017 (not very long ago I know) but if you visit my Dynamite Girls page, you’ll see that I’ve got a number already.

I’ll come to the point. If you want to start collecting them and your main source for the dolls is Ebay – be patient. Don’t rush to bid for the first doll on your wish list unless they are the very hard to find (VHTF) ones. You will know which ones these are if you watch eBay listings long enough. The reason I am advising you not to rush for the dolls is because there is a lot of difference between the prices sellers are asking for. I know that this may be the case for a lot of items on Ebay, but I notice that this is particularly the case for Dynamite Girls. For instance, I got a first wave Jett in her original box for US$49.90. However, there is currently one being sold on eBay for US$156.11.

Jett

This is not the first time I’ve come across such a large difference in price and I don’t think it will be the last. I just wanted you guys to be aware of this fact if you’re interested in collecting these really edgy dolls.

HAPPY COLLECTING!

Some Dynamite Girls redressed

I haven’t purchased any new Mattel dolls recently but have not been able to resist the sets of new outfits that have been coming out. Some of the new ones included the Care Bear ones and a few of the newer sets look great on some of my Dynamite Girls. I love these dolls and some other Integrity dolls but boy are the outfits expensive!!!! Doesn’t Eletro Pop Susie look great in her new Care Bear outfit?

Chambray Chic in the UK

I finally got my hands on ultra cool Chambray Chic and couldn’t resist redressing her. As you can see, she’s borrowed the outfit of DOTW United Kingdom Barbie and spent the day out with her British Invasion pal. I love the contrast between their white and red hair. The girls seem to have had a blast spending the day shopping and visiting the sights. I wonder where they stashed their shopping bags 🙂

Dressing Chambray Chic in the outfit was a little challenging because her hands refused to go through the sleeves of the coat without a lot of pulling and adjusting. However, thankfully I finally managed. This is the first time I’ve redressed one of the new tall Fashionista Barbies so I’ve learnt a couple of things. First, tall Fashionista Barbie has very slim feet and DOTW UK Barbie’s boots are really loose on her. Secondly, her body is also slightly slimmer so although the blue strapless dress under the jacket fits, it is also a little loose.

I love the outfit Chambray Chic is wearing but there are some things to note. The jacket does not have actual buttons. It has some stick-on black dots and the belt on the jacket doesn’t actually work. The belt had to be tied around her waist because the buckle is not an actual working buckle. I might have to change that when I have more time later. I understand the cost issues of producing the doll but the attention to these little details would have been nice.

1960s Talking Barbie

Just came across this ad that features mod era talking Barbie and wanted to share. These ads are interesting because they show how kids used to play with the Barbies. I wonder how kids play with Barbie now. I still don’t see any little girls getting excited about Barbie in the stores in Singapore. Do you think they still do? I’d love it if some of you shared your experiences.

This is a photo of the two talking Barbies in my collection. The first version is the one with the side ponytail. She is still in her original box which I love because of the graphics on it.  For instance, below is a photo of what the bottom of the box looks like. I guess that Target tag is what the doll was sold at when it was first introduced into retail stores. I wish I could have bought it at that price 🙂

Latest Addition

Just updated the project page with Cupid Barbie. She was created some time ago and was stuck in one of my cupboards till this past weekend when I was looking for a Harry Potter doll that I knew I had stashed somewhere. Oh well, I didn’t find Harry but on the bright side, found Cupid instead.

Best sources of Doll Inspiration

I used to feel quite alone whenever I thought about my Barbie / Doll collection because most of my family thought I was weird for having such a hobby and I’ve lost touch with a lot of friends who used to collect but don’t anymore. So it was great when I starting connecting with other collectors through Carousell.

As some of you may know I’ve been thinning my collection to make more room (for more dolls of course) and have met some pretty great collectors in the course of meeting them to trade). Some have become firm friends and we’ve spent literally hours just talking about Barbie. However, I’ve found another source of inspiration and that is Instagram. I must admit that I don’t post a great deal and only signed up because I wanted to follow one of the collectors I met from Carousell but it is definitely recommended.

The collectors on Instagram are phenomenal! They post beautiful pics of their collection in so many imaginative ways that it gets me to be inspired about doing the same. I’ve also seen some fantastic collections. Some collectors focus on the older dolls from the 1980s and 1990s but there are others who are into the newer dolls.

It doesn’t matter which dolls you collect, I am sure you will find a like-minded collector on Instagram and even if you don’t, you will still benefit from the inspiration you will get from other collectors on the platform so sign up for Instagram today!

downloadI always access Instagram on my phone so its pretty convenient to keep connected on the platform.
