Taipei Collection Barbie

During Barbie’s 40th Anniversary celebrations, collectors in Taiwan who attended a tea party in the Taipei Grand Hyatt Hotel were gifted with a Barbie from what is called the Taipei Collection.

Excerpt from a 1999 issue of Miller’s Fashion Doll Magazine

The doll used in the Taipei Collection is a redressed blonde Bead Blast Barbie with restyled hair. However, what makes these Barbies so special are the clothes. The inspiration for the Taipei Collection outfits came from the runway collection of Taiwan designer, Oscar Liang and many of the Taipei Collection outfits were constructed of the very same high-quality fabrics used in Ms Liang’s own collection but in exact miniature detail.

None of the outfits are tagged Mattel or Barbie but the slim light blue box which inherited its design from the 40th Anniversary Gala Barbie box indicates their origin.
