I really wanted to a Basic Ken Model #17 but unfortunately did not have the budget to get my hands on one in the secondary market. However, I did manage to get Basic Ken’s head. Most of the hair (flocking) and some paint on his head was gone but he still looked really good and since he was in my budget….I grabbed him. I thought he was too handsome to leave as is so I put his head on an articulated body which I happened to have and gave him a reroot.
I had forgotten how time consuming rerooting could be (it’s been more than 8 years since I rerooted my last Barbie) but I think I did an ‘okay’ job. You can’t see it from the photos but I think I put too much hair in each plug. He looks good on this page but if you take a closer look at the doll itself you will see what I mean.
However, despite my less than stellar rerooting job, he turned out okay and I am very happy with him.
