Project #9

I really haven’t had a lot of time to play with my dolls recently so I haven’t created any dioramas either but here is a simple sofa I made for them. Materials used: Pieces of cardboard; batting bought from the dollar store; ice cream sticks and fabric pieces.

Cut out a piece of cardboard according to the size you want your sofa to be. Use this first piece to cut out multiple pieces. The number of pieces required will depend on the thickness of the cardboard and the height you want your sofa to be.

Cut 2 other pieces for the back of the sofa. The length of each piece should be the same as the previous pieces. The only difference is the width. Again this will depend on how high or low you want the back of the sofa to be.

Cover the first set of cardboard pieces with batting. I purchased some from the dollar store which served the purpose.

Do the same for the pieces you plan to use for the backing. I stapled the batting to the cardboard because it made the batting secure and the staples would be covered by fabric.

Cover the stacks of cardboard (that have already been covered with batting) with fabric. I used glue to attach the fabric. Put the pieces aside to let the glue dry then attach the back of the sofa to the seat.

If you need to add height to the sofa, glue stacked pieces of ice cream sticks to the bottom of the sofa.
