Project #3

A panoramic view of my doll cafe

Again I used a lot of dollar store items, printables (for wall decor) and the design for the magazine rack is my own.

The walls of the diorama were covered with a combination of wrapping paper and scrapbook paper. I decided to go with a predominant color of yellow because I usually tend to lean towards darker colours.

The counter is made up of stiff cardboard covered with scrapbook paper. The tables were made with cardboard and rolled up paper for the legs while the chairs were made up of cardboard and ice cream sticks and wooden dowels. Everything was covered with paper so that it all blended together and covered any mistakes I made.

A lot of the cakes were Barbie items while the miniature coffee mugs were purchased from a local seller on Carousell.

Key lessons learnt:

  1. If something is too expensive to buy, try and figure out a way to make it. One very useful resource that I made the most of were youtube videos. There are lots of great ones to look at but I recommend the ones on the MyFroggyStuff channel.
  2. Look around Dollar Stores because you never know what you can find to help you decorate your dioramas.
  3. There are loads of printables online. Just Google what you’re looking for and you’ll be sure to find something you can use.
  4. Getting different types of glue to fit your purpose is essential. You need to make sure that you have a general purpose one like Elmer’s Tacky glue and one for suitable for sticking plastic.
  5. Have fun! I had a great time seeing my creation come to life. To be honest, I didn’t do any measurements of the furniture I put in. I just started out with a certain size of base and went from there. Just make sure you have the key elements in place which in this case was the counter and then fit the tables etc in where you have the space.
