It’s been ages….

Yes, I know it’s been ages, but I haven’t really been feeling the Barbie bug till recently when I started making a few purchases of dolls that I missed out on when I stopped collecting in 2001. The first were the reproduction TNT Barbies. I have a few of these vintage dolls, but the Singapore weather just isn’t kind to them, so I’ve decided to get the reproductions instead.

  • Red, White ‘N Warm Brunette
  • All that Jazz Blonde
  • Made for Each Other Brunette

These dolls are gorgeous and are now part of my collection, and I am over the moon. I think I’ve got all the TNT Barbie Repros so far (at least, I hope I have), and I couldn’t be happier.

Will be posting more soon. I have to get used to this new (to me) WordPress and that’s why my images are not centred.

I hope you are all having a wonderful time with your dolls. Talk soon 🙂

Jean-Michel Basquiat™ X Barbie® Doll

GHT53_Viewer

“Barbie® celebrates esteemed artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose prolific body of work played an essential role in elevating street art from the underground to gaining well-deserved acclaim in the upper echelons of the art world. His brilliant paintings are an infusion of graphic poetry, cultural dichotomies and compelling social statements that still inspire today. In a stunning tribute to the artist, this collectible Barbie® doll wears a head-to-toe ensemble featuring many well-known elements from works spanning Basquiat’s career. From the gleaming golden crown atop her head to the bespoke suit emblazoned with artwork, Jean-Michel Basquiat X Barbie® Doll is a curated collaboration bridging two cultural icons.” (Barbie.Mattel.com)

I want to purchase this doll just for her outfit, which is gorgeous! This doll has piqued my interest; however, at the point of writing this post, she is no longer available at Mattel.com. I am hoping that more stocks will be coming in and am keeping my fingers crossed.  She is designed by Carlyle Nuera and is on a pivotal body.

Barbie Best to a Tea Doll

This doll is the second in a series of 4 dolls that Mattel is issuing to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Barbie Fashion Model Collection. She “looks fashionably ready for an afternoon high tea. She wears a cream-colored bouclé suit ensemble, ruffled blouse and a chic fascinator with just the right pop of color. Delicate black gloves, tights, and stylish booties complete her sleek look. This collectible Barbie® doll features a poseable Silkstone® body.” (Mattel.com).

I like her better than I did the first doll in the series, Best in Black Barbie, which I thought was just too simple and did not come with any accessories. However, do note the difference in price. Barbie Best to a Tea is priced at $80.00 compared to the first in series that was priced at $60. At this point, both dolls can still be ordered directly from Barbie.Mattel.com.

Note: I checked the post I did on the Best in Black Barbie on November 21, 2019 and realized that I did not state any opinion on the doll. I guess I didn’t have anything nice to say about it and therefore didn’t review it at all. Oh dear!

3 new dolls in the Inspiring Women Series

Mattel has introduced 3 new dolls in this series. They are the Ella Fitzgerald Barbie, Billie Jean King Barbie & Florence Nightingale Barbie. You’d have to pre-order the Ella Fitzgerald doll but the other 2 are currently in stock on Mattel.com and retailing for $29.99 each.

Barbie’s Puma Outfits & Summer Olympic dolls

All of the outfits pictured in the photo below arrived today and I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to dress my dolls in them! I bought all of them online from Amazon and they were priced from $4.99 to $9.99. There were one or two other designs but I only got the ones I really wanted. Looking forward to taking some photos of my dolls in them.

I’ve also just seen the following photo online and love the dolls and their outfits. I’ve heard that these are supposed to be the dolls released for the Summer Olympics but I’ve also heard that some of them might be OOAK (one of a kind). I hope the first statement is the truth because I’d love to get my hands on some of them. 🙂

PS. I’ve just realized that there is a Toy Story T-shirt in Photo #1. I think that was on sale for $2.99.

Dragon Empress Barbie

This gold label doll is the last doll of the Mythical Muse collection which started with the Unicorn Goddess™ Barbie® Doll in 2018 and was followed by the Mermaid Enchantress™ Barbie® Doll in 2019.

When I first heard the name of this doll, I immediately thought of Bob Mackie’s Fantasy Goddess of Asia Barbie and was actually surprised when I got my first glimpse of the photo of the doll. On second thought, I shouldn’t have been surprised because this doll follows the same sort of color scheme as the 2 other dolls in the series and has a dreamy aura about her. I know many collectors who loved the other dolls in the series so I am sure that she will be a hit with them as well.

Recent Purchases

I realize that it’s been some time since I’ve posted. There are 2 reasons for this. For one, RL has been pretty hectic and secondly, I don’t think there’s been anything exciting in the dolly world to talk about.

I haven’t received or purchased anything new since Christmas but that changed yesterday when I managed to get my hands on come Barbie Puma outfits that I have been eyeing for a while. There was a first wave of these with some really cute accessories etc but these are currently only available on the secondary market.  However, the following have been in stock on Amazon on and off over the last week and I finally managed to get my hands on the 2 designs that I wanted which are outfits 3 & 4. I love the black shorts and the fact that the Puma brand name is on its waistband. I purchased them on Amazon for $4.99 each.

I hope all of you have had a happy Christmas and found some wonderful dolly presents under the tree! I got the doll I wanted which was the ponytail BMR1959 Ken doll and also the original outfit (with the cool umbrella) that came with Sunny Slickers Poppy Parker so I am a very happy camper 🙂

2020 is just a few days away and I hope that it will be a good one for all of us. There are some clouds on the horizon (figuratively speaking) but my hope that all of us are blessed with good health and be able to enjoy our hobby of doll collecting!

MTM Basketball Barbie & a BMR1959 outfit

I loved the look of some of the new BMR1959 Barbies & Kens and was lucky enough to purchase one of the outfits from a fellow collector. I redressed my basketball MTM Barbie in the outfit and she looks fantastic! I didn’t think the outfit would fit because the basketball Barbie is a tall Barbie but it does. Shoes were not included in the purchase of the outfit but the shoes of the basketball MTM Barbie work just as well.
